Well, there's no guide on how to make a good bassline. Just experiment with long and short bassnotes and different octaves.

You said you wanted classic basslines. Just make the classic offbeat-pattern.

i cant remember where it is in this forum but there is a thread here somewhere called 'the fight against oompa itis' or something to that effect. try searching for it. if you cant find ill check as well. brilliant resource if you are starting out and making basslines but dont want the simple off beat bass. this was stickied a long time ago and i feel it should be re-stickied because this question does get asked alot and because some of the mods bust a vein everytime it happens.

this may just be the thread that blows mr mystery's juggular. killed by an unarmed amateur producer. what a way to die.

You can try to go Airbase-style, experimenting with delay. That can give sweet effects. And it's true about that "ompa itis" thread, it was a nice thread - wierd they unstickied it.

Semi-OT: There is certainly such a thing as a bass lead (not that they're common, especially in EDM). They usually sound bad in my opinion, but they're out there.

What do you mean "Airbase-style" ?

There are not just Airbase who use delay added to the bassline. It's something that almost every artist do.

Yeah, I know that it's commonly used.. But I was thinking using delay the way Airbase used it on Theme From the Rock for example. I'm not saying that anyone should copy other artists, but it's something worth experimenting with!
