Your thoughts on John Askew?

This is very important. I need to know what everyone here thinks of John Askew. I personally, really enjoy his tunes & his live sets. But if the guy were to come to Texas, what do you think would be the best place? and would you come out?

My original thought would be Dallas, since it seems Dallas has a larger trance scene then most places. The other idea would be San Antonio... Id rather it be Austin, but House & DNB rule Austin.

Anyway, Any comments welcome.. good or bad. This would be very helpful to me, come NYE or March of 2005

Thanks
peace
-Andrew

I liked Askew back in the day when Trance was at the forefront, so I would say that he would put on a good show. The thing is, no one really knows him in the DJ realm of things so I think it wouldn' be a profittable event from a business standpoint. I mean, I heard when Sander was in Dallas the floor was empty. And he, to me, is a big name progressive act. No doubt Askew would put on a good show, I just think you would lose some money doing this.

I'd definitely go if it was in Austin (independent of venue).

San Antonio I'd probably go, depending on the venue (I've sworn off Planeta).

Houston--I might go if it's at Rich's.

My .02.

sander wasn't packed but it was far from empty.

as far as askew.
if it was in houston. i would definately go.
you might get your regulars for each club, but as far as getting people
from other cities. like someone else said. unless it is top 10, not really.

This is Marco V were talking about here!! In Holland he could sell out a stadium. tisk.... tisk...

now that was fucking dissapointing...I really lost my faith in the general scene after that one. Ah well...he seemed cool about it tho.

I would be totally down to see John Askew play and I got a bit of his tracks. Digging his brand new one "Blackout"..got it on my last mectersa mix.

I'd drive to check him out no prob. I would prefer Austin though. Ona show like this, you need to make sure the locals will bring out the crowd to back it up. Locals are very important.

In Austin, if you put Luca Wade and Daveed, you are already to a good start. I paid 10 bucks to see Dieselboy and after Lucas and Daveed played, I would have been happy paying 10 just to see them.

I honestly don't think I have heard his name mentioned before, and if I haven't heard of him -- more than likely, most other people haven't either. I am not a know-it-all in the EDM scene, but have above average knowledge of the DJs and if I don't know a name, I promise neither does the general public. It might be a good idea not to bring him if you want money, because if I wasn't on this forum to hear how good he was, I wouldn't go.

You either have to book another headliner or highly popular locals.

DJList 100 way LOL

Popularity doesn't necessarily mean poor quality. I'm not saying to book DJ Pepito from Hot 99.7 that plays Booty Bass or anything, but to book quality, respected locals. There are a lot out there that would love to play that kind of show.

I'm not a big Drum and Bass fan, so Dieselboy alone would not have made a drive to Austin worth it. They had Vicious Vic (eh), Lucas and Daveed, and Anominiss vs. Cinder. The fact that Dieselboy is really good, AND the local talent on top of the 10 buck ticket made it worthwhile to me.

Locals would be people like:

Kid Icarus
Lance Cashion
Me (Cough)

And I was speaking about possibly doing a double booking with Matt Hardwick.

Thanks for the comments, def. helps

peace

Well, I don't know if I would consider Jeremy and Lance "locals". They're a notch above that if you ask me.

It all depends on what you want out of this party. If you want to turn out the "underground" peeps and make more money, then book more respected "up and comers". If you're more about the "musical experience", then book the higher quality DJs that never disappoint like Lance and Jeremy.

I think you'll be ok no matter what though. Whatever you decide to do, I'll be there.
