My Apple G4 Powerbook + Its Enhancements (Please help me figure out what is wrong)

Okay, I've done my searches and I have come up dry with this question because I believe it is fairly new to be asked anyway, so here goes:

I just purchased an Apple G4 17 inch Powerbook last week.
I also purchased Logic 7 Express.

So I started working on some tracks, and realized that this wasn't going to help in finishing with what I had already started (songs that is)

So I purchase 2 more items:

1 gig of RAM, that I have already installed.
1 m-audio firewire 410 4in/10out firewire mobile recording interface
( http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...read&forumid=48 )

SO, I still haven't recieved that external maudio fire wire, but my question is this.

When I load a song, say a song I made:

I goto Audio-> System Performance

I load up the song and the Audio meter goes to the roof. Near half way through the song, it crashes. I thought that the RAM that I purchased was going to help this out, but I haven't seen any improvements yet. I also notice that I did install the RAM correctly because my system now says 1.5 Ghz, instead of 512.

Now, my M-Audio Firewire 410 is still on some UPS truck, awaiting delivery. Will this help fix this problem of letting me run my music, with all the tracks/effects that I need to have a sufficient sounding song?

Also, when I load the song, sometimes it will go to the very tip top of redness (System Performance Section again).. and it will crash, saying that the CoreAudio is overloaded.

Would the FIREWIRE fix this? I really hope it does, cause I just had to dish out almost another 1000 in this setup, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing some informative remarks! : )

using just the onboard Audio will cause all sorts of problems and the error message tells you that, onboard audio its not intended for professional use.you should change your buffer settings this will help but once you get the M-audio Firewire it shouldnt be a problem. ..1 gig of ram will help hosting more vst's and smoother operation in your host but it wont really help with the Audio aspect. Ram is used to host more programs it doesnt process the audio. also if your logic track has heaps of audio tracks it could cause a bit of a problem as powerbooks do have a slowish hard drive. only 5400 rpm.can you load tracks into ram ?

i dont use a mac anymore so my info is limited...

hope it helps

Make sure your buffer size is set to at least 512 samples (in the hardware page of the preferences menu in Logic)...I use 1024 but thats because I have a Powercore firewire.

Make sure process buffer range is set to "medium", I've had bad luck with it set to either small or large.

The built-in audio hardware should be adequate though for playback, I just wouldnt use it for much recording.

Try muting every track and hitting play. CPU meter should be pretty low, yes? unmute tracks one by one, so you can isolate what audio regions or plugins are causing the problem. Check and see if you have a HQ reverb plugin (i.e. space designer) loaded with a very long decay time, as this will eat up CPU power very quickly.
