hello belgium!

hi belgium! my name is charles and ive just recently found this site which is strange considering how long ive been in the scene. my purpose for starting this thread is to meet some cool people from belgium who are as passionate about trance music as i am : ) im from miami, florida but ive lived in italy for the past two years which gives me the opportunity to travel around europe. ive decided to take a trip to brussels next year and would love to have some cool people to hang out with when i get there! being that trance music is very unique in the sense that it brings people together as friends from all over the world and from very different backgrounds im hoping that you guys will be able to tell me which clubs are the best to go to on the weekends and maybe we can even meet up. my favorite djs/producers are mike and l-vee so it only makes sense that i visit! reading some of the other threads in this forum leads me to believe that many of you feel the same! im totally cool and fun to hang out with. i also dj/produce so maybe i can give you a cd so you can tell me how much i suck compared to airwave! im going to miami for the wmc in march, ibiza in august, and belgium later in the year. im all about making friends and having a good time so write me back if youre in the mood. peace belgium!

hey there, interesting read

Brussels is a cool city. lots of things happen there, it never gets boring.. i'm sure you'll like it

trance is pretty much dead in Belgium though. there are a few great clubs around here, but dj's stopped spinning trance 4 years ago.

however, if you're planning to visit our country in September, there's a big festival called "Antwerp is Burning" (outdoor!), that always has a big trance tent with lots of big names (we've had Mike, Armin, J'00'F, Fred Baker, Marco V., etc.)

hope that helps a bit

ID&T is trying to revive trance in Belgium though

Tiesto In Concert Hasselt, Sensation White Belgium in April, Antwerp is Burning

I hope this is just the start of ID&T-Belgium

She says "Three hits a day at 35 per", you say "That's seven tricks a day at least", but she says "Sometimes I get lucky. Once this guy gives me a bill-and-half just to eat me, only time I ever came".
You figure you can save her. You sell your color tv, that keeps her off the streets a whole day. You hawk your typewriter for one jolt. Then your shotgun, your watch. A week later you say "Listen I'm a little short", but she says "No scratch, no snatch". You say "Look it is better to give", but she says "Beat off creep".
One night they spot you on the street in your skibbies trying to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are, but they nail you. Then she happens by and she says "Christ you look fucked", she says "Hang tough!". But you don't say anything, you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me".

thats really interesting. ive always thought of belgium as one of the capitals of trance but from what you all are saying i guess thats in the past. so what are they spinning there now? have the days of push and airwave vanished? as a dj ive recently developed a great passion for electro and minimal house however trance is the music that first got me into this scene. have the same sentiments swept over belgium?

Belgium is all about techno and house, or, in the clubs with a lower standard, harddance and jump-music (the so-called Tuning Beats we all dispise). And I can honestly say we have some of the finest house and techno clubs in Europe, but unfortunately no real trance club. There are some that claim to be a "trance temple", but in reality they just play retro-trance and the more commercial stuff. The only occasion for people to party on proper trance is to go to special clubnights with - mostly international - trance-Dj's. Or you can indeed visit the big indoor and outdoor festivals throughout the country.

But hey, if you also like electro and minimal you'll probably have a good time anyway! You should definetely visit Fuse then, as Eagle said! It's one of the most renowned techno-clubs in the world!

EDIT: Sorry for the very unfortunate typo, fixed now

well Dude, it's allways fun to know new people, unlike the others here. I will say this: If you really want to hang out I'll try my best. but like the others say belgium is dead when it comes to trance but there are lots of other fun places to hang out, and if you are really in the need for a trance-club visit the netherlands (denk dat het juist is )
anyways just keep you plans comming maybe there is something special going on over here when you arrive.
greetz

Hi Charles,

I love the things u said about belgian-trance, but as most people said those days are gone I think we still have this trance-look thanks to M.I.K.E, Airwave, etc...

Ah, it's so sad that most belgian youngsters are soooo narrow-minded.

But I like the fact that some old clubs are reopening, and a couple of them are trying to put Trance again on the belgian-music-map. (from what I've heard so far)... Let's hope this comes out!!

Maybe you will be lucky and there's a BEta-trance party at that time... (BEta = belgium trance addicts) so you'll meet alot of people from this forum!

Well, trance is not completely dead here, there's still a lot of trance in Belgium, it's just that the recent changes have made groovy/nouveau disco more popular genres. Fuse (http://www.fuse.be/) is probably ONE of the clubs you want to be visiting. If you're looking for groovy stuff, try La Rocca (http://www.larocca.be)

Others you might want to check out:

http://www.lagoa.be (well, I can't really describe the style.. it's just.. Lagoa )
http://www.cafe-d-anvers.com/ 15-years celebration this year (laydback/house/groovy.. check the background tunes on the site and you've GOT to see Smos & Baby Bee!
http://www.themixx.be/ (concept by Ritz, stylish.. very cool interior!)
http://www.illusion.be/ (last but not least.. If you want trance, you'll most probably find it here!

Greetz, and, //me out!

Fuse for Techno/house(2nd room)

And ID&T will start their massive campaign in January. It's pretty mad, they're going to try and bring Trance back to Belgium and organise some sweet events.

well it certainly sounds as though there is still a demand for trance out there so i suppose its good that some are trying to bring it back. i will still plan my trip to brussels and im sure ill have a good time if most of the clubbers there are as cool and musically educated as you guys. one problem i have with italy is that most of the people here are very closed-minded when it comes to their electronic music. the passion is not so much for the music here as it is to just go out and be seen. so my question is, what do you guys listen to when you go out, and what would you listen to in a perfect world? furthermore, would any of you that spin be willing to trade mix cds?
