Turntable Coffins
ive checked Ebay and a few other internet sites,
wondering if anyone knows of somewhere in the US i can find a deal on a turntable coffin
budget is $100 and so far ive found a few used ones on ebay and one which will be closing today i think
anways, i imagine $100 will get me a pretty simple coffin which is fine, my turntables are pretty cheap, almost toys, but i love em to death anyways cus theyre all i have at the moment and im always taking them back and fourth from my house to my moms house across town and already ive had to ghetto rig one of the power cords b/c the prongs for the power outlet were snapped off by the door of my dads truck and one of the dust covers has a big crack
if you know where i can find a coffin thats: traditional style and 10in mixer, preferably with handles, wheels would be nice, ATA if possible... for around $100, that are better than what im looking at pls lemme know, itd be greatly appreciated
you can get them custom built to fit anything but even the bog standard turntable ones dont come cheap. those ones though are practically invincible. ive had my guitar thrown around in a flightcase. the case wasnt so good though and it got wrecked but the guitar was snug as a bug inside. the composite shell cracked and you could see the polystyrene material inside. i was pissed about that because they really must have (literally) thrown it around to crack the shell. pretty fucking hard too. im still using it. does the job fine even with the cracks. guitar flight cases are different to those turntable ones though. those ones really are SOLID. you can bash em about a bit more. dunno what it would take to destroy one...

I'm gonna agree on the flight cases. Technics aren't light(I think they're around 22 pounds or so). Two of those plus a DJ mixer plus the weight of the coffin(it's not gonna be super light since you want it to be sturdy) can mean a 50 or 60 pound box. It's not incredibly heavy but it's enough to make it annoying. If you have TTX-1's, it's even worse, I think they're supposed to be around 29 pounds(someone correct me if I'm wrong on these numbers). You could have a 70+ pound case. Even with lighter turntables like you mention you have, coffins are huge and might get annoying to store or take in a smaller car. Flight cases are stackable and a lot more convenient.
mine are Odyssey.....they are sturdy as hell and nicely padded on the inside and as with all flight cases you keep the tt in it while you are spinning

I own Odyssey too. They can take a serious beating. I also use to own a pair of Road Ready, and i honestly like them better b/c they have the cable through port on the back, and the foam doesn't seem to resonate as bad as my odysseys.
Oh yeah, don't get a coffin, they are as heavy as fuk and are bulky, go for flight cases instead.

I bought the diamond one from guitar center, I pricematched it somewhere and got them for $70 each. The only thing is, if you own TTX-1's or large TT's like that, you need to cut up the foam inside with a knife or something, which can be a pain in the ass. After that, they fit nice and snug though.

I got the diamonds too. I too had to cut one a while back when i owned a str8-100, but since i got nothing but 1200s now, i have to jam foam in between the deck and inside so it doesn't rock around in there.
I honestly perfer the Road Ready instead of this case. The RR just seems to secure better than the odyssey to me.
