divX

You need to get the DivX codec from http://divx.ctw.cc/ and install it -- you can use your regular Windows Media Player after and it'll play it just fine...

Enjoy!

no u don't!
you get an AVI with an *.mpeg suffix!

If you change your name to Ahmed,it doesn't mean that you become a muslim, does it????

u can rename all your wavs to *.mp3,but they don't become 10 times smaller,do they????

Hi!

Get the codec as Swamper mentioned above or get avi2mpeg.
I use it to encode video files and it functions well.

Here's the URL from the author of this program:
http://www.ush.de/avi2mpeg.htm

(Notice: It's no advertisement )

Bye,
P.

Smoking ..umm..something Geez....

The reason why I thought this worked is it actually changes the file extension and therefore the file type. For instance, when dowloading a song with a .class or .doc file extension, you can rename them to mp3 and they turn into an mp3, and if you don't, it will open up in the program that has that particular file association. I just thought maybe you could do the same thing with this technique, as the compression codecs for .avi and .mpg are virtually the same and you are not changing the filesize....sorry if the information I gave in my last post was misleading information...

Uhhh.. The contents of the files are not modified, all you're doing is changing the name of the file which points to those contents.

The compression codecs are NOT the same... if they were they'd be the same format... an avi can be a traditional AVI or a divx AVI..
