Jeff Mills - Exhibitionist

If you are curious to hear what's it like to mix 41 tracks in 70 minutes without Pro-Tools, check out this CD.

P.S. I wonder how many decks he used to makes this mix?!

jeff mills uses a main technique to hi trackselection, he only plays like 1+ min of the song, and those 1+ mins is what he thinks is the strong part of the song

courtesy of discogs. If you think the exhibitionist is impressive, check out richie hawtin - closer to the edit

After recording, sampling, cutting, and splicing over 100 tracks down to their most basic components, I ended up with a collection of over 300 loops, ranging in length from 1 note to 4 bars. I then started to recreate and reinterpret each track, putting the pieces back together as if an audio jigsaw puzzle- using effects and edits in between each piece. This 53 minute piece, consisting of over 70 tracks and 31 ID points, represents what those loops became, and how their interactions created something that had not existed before. -Richie Hawtin-

jeff mills is continuing down this really silly road. I think i would have more respect for him if he just stopped all this nonsense. Sure he plays a lot of tracks? big deal. His mixing is really really shoddy. I think he needs to strike some sort of happy balance but then I doubt he cares what the people he plays to really think.

Indeed Jeff's mixing isn't always spot on, but in some way it has its charm. He puts on a record, mixes it in and then begins beatmatching. In techno you get away with that. In livesets I don't mind a few mistakes, but on a mix cd like this he should have tried harder.

Saw him live @ Tivoli in Utrecht (NL) and was amazed he didn't make any mistake then.

the problem with jeff mills is that hes now pretty much destined to be remembered as a circus act rather than 'a good dj'. Sure he has talent, but hes attempting things outside his ability. Again, I doubt he cares but there you go.
