Rave, dj's, or related stories
All right, well in the "Thank you Tiesto" thread we started telling some stories about seeing Tiesto and what not, so I figured if anyone had any other stories they wanted to show(about any dj, party, etc), we could all share em
This is a story I wrote to some web page in Feb., shortly after seeing Tiesto at Sona. It's pretty long, but hopefully will be enjoyable for some people to read

Where to start with my party story,
Well I haven't been listening to Tiesto for that long a period of time, probably around 2 years. I started listening to him because a friend of mine that used to live in Montreal, Canada moved to Amsterdam, and he'd would give me suggestions and send me sets of who he thought I'd like to hear. He is a huge Tiesto fan, and he turned me into one too. As soon as I heard a Tiesto set I did what I could too find more of his music, and started getting other people to listen to him. At the time they were impressed but refused to believe that anyone could perform beyond the magnitude of Paul Oakenfold, well that all changed July 15th, 2000 @ "Oasis" in Montreal, Canada in the Molson center.
I found out that Oakenfold's guest dj was going to be Tiesto, I immediately got in touch with my friend in Amsterdam who was extremely happy for me that I was going to have a Tiesto experience. I started boasting to people, "wait until you hear Tiesto!!!", everyone was getting annoyed with me and said "yeah he's good, but Oakie's the only one I care about hearing."
Tiesto and Oakenfold were both at that party, Oakenfold played his set first, which was a great set, I was very deeply into it, the highlight for me was probably when I heard silence building in the background (first time I heard it at a party), I found myself getting so excited jumping up and down, starting to put on a little show for some of the crowd, and then I became completely in tuned with the music.
After Oakenfolds set Tiesto came on, and I don't think the people were expecting the performance he gave, especially following a good Oakenfold set. I started out dancing to the beginning of his set, then I moved up into the stands were a large crew of mine was chilling, all of us sat there listening to Tiesto, watching how he controlled the crowd. Halfway threw the set everyone started coming up to me and saying "You're right, Tiesto is the man!!!"
I sat in the crowd next to my brother with a huge smile, both of us side by side, we found ourselves astounded by his music, both of us pointing out what tracks we heard coming on, in complete disbelief over the control he had on the crowd!! We watched him start to wave his hands over his tables (he was high in the stands), my brother and I asked each other "what's he doing?" He was looking out on the crowd and slowly raising his hands, no one in the crowd was watching him, but everyone started to raise there hands, by the time his hands were all the way up waving around, so were everyone else's. It was the greatest experience to watch what seemed like a magician waving his wand over the crowd, and his magical spell being cast, I wish I could have had a video or a photo to preserve the moment.
After Oasis everyone who had doubted Tiesto's skill, didn't anymore, there was no question of his pure raw talent to play deep music. I think he was immediately put on top of the world in everyone's mind that had heard him. Ever since then we've been tracking him and praying he would come back to Canada, my friends and I said if he was ever close enough (different province or close in the States), we would mission to see him. During the middle of January we found out that he would becoming back to Montreal to perform at Sona (an after hours club). This was unbelievably great news, considering I was going to Jamaica for a vacation and was coming back on Feb. 18, so the come down from vacation wouldn't be so harsh knowing we would get to hear Tiesto live!!!! (we played Tiesto on the beach in Jamaica, relaxing by the ocean)
On Friday February 23rd we went to Sona and arrived out front at about 2:30 am, there was a gigantic lineup and it was at least, if not more then -25c with the wind chill factor. Sona doesn't work on a regular lineup basis, there lineup is a circle and they choose who they let in and who they refuse. I went with four friends, two of whom were regulars there, so we were hoping to get in without any problems. Two of my other friends went half an hour before us and started to wait in line, when we arrived they were still in front of the line waiting and freezing. There must have been at least 75 people waiting outside in what felt like the coldest night of the winter. They were letting people in very slowly, we waited for about 45 mins, with people from the crowd slowly leaving because they were too cold, and others just showing up to start waiting. My two other friends in line couldn't wait any longer and to there distress had to leave because they were way too cold, and nearly frostbitten. The five of us decided that we would wait longer to get in, we felt bearing the cold was worth it to hear Tiesto. We were frozen to the point were we could hardly move, or feel or toes, finally a bouncer came up to my friend. He said that he could let him in, but not four other guys that he was with (good looking females usually don't have to wait long to get in, but for this night they were being turned away!!). My friend said that he couldn't leave his crew and would wait to see if there was anything that could be done, fifteen minutes passed and the bouncer came back. My friend asked him if there was a chance that we would all be able to get in, he said he would check and see what he could do. We waited another fifteen minutes, at which point three of my friends started to walk off, frustrated, freezing and upset that weren't going to get to hear Tiesto when he was so close to us. My friend asked me to wait with him for one more minute just to see if the bouncer would let us in, at last he came back to us. The bouncer asked to point out which people we were with, and we did, he finally said "Okay, you five guys and the two girls next to you". We were in!!!! It was 3:45 am, and Tiestos set was starting in 15mins!! We were all in a lot of pain from being so cold and then entering such a warm atmosphere, none of us cared about the pain though, we were all rushing from the fact that we were going to get to hear and see DJ Tiesto!!!! We went threw coat check as quickly as possible and rushed upstairs to where he was performing, a packed house, hardly any room in-between people. We rushed to the middle of the floor right in front of the Dj booth, and made it just in time as Tiesto started his set!!! Well there wasn't enough room in the place to dance and to fully fall deep into the music, but it was the best set I had ever heard!! He played a very diverse set, mixing from trance to house, adding in break beats, it was phenomenal!!!
We left at about 8:00 am, walking up the stairs to go back to the cold from which we came. Going up the stairs I saw my brother talking to some people, I walked passed them looked, thought I had recognized one of them so I nodded and received a nod back (it was hard for me to see, I had a kangol hat covering my head and eyes a bit, and my sunglasses on too). When I got outside I asked my brother who that was, he told me it was Tiesto!!!! The doors were closed and there was no way for me to get back in and tell him what I thought and felt about his music, which was a bit agonizing!! My brother told me he recognized him and saw his record case so he knew who it was, he told Tiesto that he played a great set and that his music was amazing (you should have seen the smile on my brothers face!!).
We all sat in the car during the ride back and talked about how good his set was,and how we wished we would be able to travel to somewhere far to hear him, like Ibiza or Amsterdam, but could just depend on the hope that he would be coming back to Montreal soon, or somewhere near, because without question, even if we had to stay in the freezing cold, or endure some other misfortunes to hear a master at work, it would be more then worth it!!!!
Well I'm not to sure whom this was written to, but it's my Tiesto story and hopefully they'll be some sequels to come Take it easy
