Arturia's Minimoog V. I checked out the demo of the minimoog and I'm really liking it. However, I was checking out the samples (no demo) of Spectronics Trilogy and I was really impressed. Only thing is it would be nice to demo before I go spend $350, but since thats not possible, I'd like some oppinions. Any experiences with Trilogy?

Trilogy is 2/3 bass guitars which is somewhat worthless for trance producing.
I don't think it's worth the $ man.. All the bass sounds can easily be reproduced by a number of other non-sample based synths. It's fairly limited for people like us who are dependant on being able to be involved in the synthesis of the sounds. I think that app has alot more apeal to people who needs a bass synth in other genres of music, as it has a nifty staccato function that makes it able to be played more or less like a bass guitar!
That's my opinion at least!

^ the above basically sums it up, not worth the money...
Stylus is the same way - it's basically just a loop sample CD for $300.. completly not worth it...
ATMOSPHERE on the other hand.. is worth EVERY PENNY you pay for it.. I LOVE THAT THING
Well, I guess that takes care of that question. I did like what I heard from the trilogy samples, but I did notice that 2/3 of those samples were bass guitars like Alanzo pionted out. looks like I'm going with the Minimoog

well, the fact that Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and Ronald van Gelderen uses Trilogy should mean something
Yeah, I really wonder why they have a copy of it.. As I can't see how they should have a use for it!

i bought it together with stylus and atmosphere. while i use atmosphere every day, i think that especially trilogy is more or less useless for trance productions. there is a very small amount of sounds which are suitable for trance productions, so just buy atmosphere and use these trance bass sounds for your productions.
furthermore, the (useable) sounds of trilogy are not very unique, you can simple create them with the most ( freeware) softsynths, which offer much more modulation params than trilogy does.

I own the trilogy myself, as stated before most of the sounds aren't useful for producing trance (allthough if you want to make a track in the style of gabriel & dresden, real bassguitar sounds may come in handy ). still there are a lot of useful sounds in it for producing trance music in my opinion (I made some sounds which I wasn't able to make with other vst's but that can offcourse be contributed to me being to unexperienced for it). Another pro is the fact that you can easily layer sounds ,cos each preset (made by you or others) can contain 2 different samples which are very easy to tweak.
Another big pro for me is the fact that sample based vst's hardly need any cpu!
btw, you can also try to play the trilogy on heigher notes, and make some tightsounding lead-kind-of sounds.
the downside offcourse is the amount of money it costs.
