new tracks and mixing them

when you get a new track, how often do you listen to it before mixing it into/out of anything.

1 or 2 times. After that, I start mixing it.

Best way to get to know your new records IMO.

If I'm getting a new track online, I've almost al;ways already heard it, if not, I'll listen to it online before I buy it. If I'm buying from a record store I listen to a little there to know I want it, then come home and start mixing with it. The best way to get to know a song is to mix it into others and see what works and what doesn't.

if ive alredy bought it(on vinyl), i listen to each side and see which mixes i like more than others, listen to each side a few times to get a good feel for the track and start mixing...

afterwards i listen to the recording wherever i go... also helps to get to know a track, especially on vinyl

I listen to a track several times, to get a feel for it, before I try mixing it. Obviously, when I hear a track, I have an idea of how it could be placed in a set and the energy levels it creates, but usually I'll play it first and then practice with it a bit more before playing it out.

I usually go to the side that i'm most excited about and listen to about 1 or 2 measures of the intro, build up, etc. and then i'm way to anxious to listen to the whole thing, so i mix out of it...after i do that for a while...sometimes, i'll listen to it a couple of times, or the different remixes, you know, that way the anticipation is not killing me anymore

edit: accidently worded it wrong...it should be "anticipation is not killing me anymore", not "anticipation is killing me anymore"

It varies depending on what I'm doing that day, but most the time I get it, take it home and mix it up right away.
