ipod's record feature is limited to 8 seconds or so. That voice memo thing is all it can do. you would need an iriver, creative labs, or a md recorder to do what you want.

You most definitely CAN record with a (3rd generation or later) iPod:

These two are for voice, just a microphone and speaker, they doesn't have and external input so probably not the best option:
Griffin iTalk
Belkin Voice Recorder

This one on the other hand might be what you're looking for:
Belkin Universal Microphone Adapter

"too" trendy?

countercultural types continue to amaze me. you won't buy an ipod, because too many people have one. this despite the fact that the reason so many people have it is because it is so great.

I dunno, that only records 16-bit audio at 8kHz. Also, it looks like it doesn't record in stereo. While this adaptor is outstanding for lectures and interviews, for actual music, it is inadequate.

I reeeeeeally wish they could make a line-in record adaptor for my ipod. I would buy it in a heartbeat. I really want a stand-alone recording device, so I don't have to run my master through my computer.
