effects of internet on dance music

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me out a bit

I'm doing a paper for my music industry class on the effect of the internet on electronic dance music.
I want to talk about mp3s of course
but also i want to talk about how its encouraged the spread of popularity of the music through more people finding out about DJs, tracks, albums and so forth.
I also want to talk about how producers can easily share their work and communicate more easily with eachother by use of the internet.
If you guys have any sources of info such as interviews, articles, or whatever, i would be greatly appreciative or any ideas or anything would be great.

muchas gracias

i did an essay almost exactly the same as that! I think the internet has played a huge part in the dance music scene. forum sites like these almost like an online community of people who all love the same sorta music and consequently find each other very easy to get on with. While it may seem from an outsiders view to be a somewhat dead scene in the music industry, i think its very much alive due to things like the internet. I mean look at how many tracks there are out there which fit the EDM catagory, its insane, i dont have any or much experience with other kinds of music and the internets involvment with them, but i havnt come across anything like the commuminity that we trancers seem to have, where people share their work, learn from other peoples work, meet people with similar interests, and discuss successful artists who we have all heard of but no one else in the world seems to have done! The internet gives us a chance to listen to and appriciate unsigned tracks on almost a more regular basis than signed tracks, imagine what we would be missing out on without the internet, where else would we hear all this stuff? as for mp3 sharing, its funny because on the whole artists in this scene support file sharing, because i think alot of them are doing it to be heard, and not for money, money is just a bonus, whereas (and again i talk from a total lack of experience) other artists producing different styles of music which i have come across, are more concerned about file sharing because it damages the sum of money that they will make... sorry that was extremely generalised, i know its a really really stupid thing to claim, that only trance music this and other music that.. but im just making some points based on what i have seen. Of course most musicians are passionate about what they do, and i didnt mean to sound like i was trying to say they are only in it for money, im talking more about commercially orientated artists (obviously) who maybe are more worried about their wallet than anything else...

anyway i hope this bunch of jibberish helps, im still pretty fucked from last night!

mike
