Hey Trevor. Nice new tune you have here. Really like the melodic feel you gave in this one. Well just sounds a little lo-fi, but it is at 128k though. Maybe the kick could be a little sharper sounding, by adding some clicky type perc on the same notes as the kick. Overall real nice atmospheric track. Good Job. Try to catch u on MSN. |
Hopefully with the new kick, and at a higher bit rate it will sound a lil cleaner! Hope to chat with ya soon, and thanks for the review Dave!

Hey Sunquest - thanks man, I really appreciate your opinion - thanks for the kind words. Hopefully, the new kick will make it sound a bit stronger.

the REVIEW
the INTRO/OUTRO
I like the intro and outro for this piece, although its quite simple, its pleasing to listen to. The problem with many tracks out there today is that the intro/outro is simply a beat with a hi-hat and no musical element, its as if they put it in because they have to, whereas here the intro has a simple musical melody which nicely foreshadows the rest of the track.
the DRUMS
One of the first elements I noticed I was the unique drums. Although there is a dominating and pulse like drum beat (common to all trance beats) accomponied with a suttle some what "bongo" style drum tune, making the beat an active part of the song. These "bongo" drums I speak of sound quite similar (but not alike) to the ones found in "Andain - Summer Calling (Gabriel and Dresden Remix)"
At 3:23 of the track there is a echo effect with the drums, which once again plays with an element most trance artists don't dare to experiment with. Not many trance artists spend time alternating the drum beats like this, although a few good examples of artists that do such experimentations would be: Safari Duo, Gabriel and Dresden, and A Force.
the MELODY
I like the nice soothing, relaxed, and chill effect of synths at the beginning, which continue through most of the track.
The most noticable addition to the track would have to be the piano tune, which like the other melodies is simple, relaxed, and soothing. The piano definitely adds a ambient sound to the track.
5:45... comes forward an element most people didnt notice... the killer "guitar" style sound which accomponies the piano tune. Very nice addition, really compliments the piano nicely. (Once again, quite similar to the "Gabriel and Dresden" style... the nice deep guitar sound )
the CONSTRUCTIVE Critism
Now a little bit about how this track could have been better (in my opinion anyways) :
the Piano tune: I felt it was kinda cliche... almost like i've heard it somewhere before.
the Guitar sound: The guitar sound at 5:45 was very nice, you should definitely make that more dominated than it was.
the Effects/Sounds: you should use a little variation in the effects and sounds used, I felt at times it was too repeative and a bit boring.
the TOTAL
Over all this is a very nice track.
the Best part: innovation and experimentation with the drums.
the Favorite Moments: 1:25 - 3:23 - 5:45
the Score: 8/10

Alright Trev! This is another great piece of work from you! The overall feel of the track is very nice, and the quality even sounds good at 128kbps. I enjoy the percs and bass a lot, especially in the intro/outro. The delayed kick effect from 3:20 is a bit too loud, I think it would work better if it was more subtle - maybe if you LP filtered it or something.
That's my only critisism though on another lovely piece of work. Thanks for sharing!
(oh, and get onto MSN, I need to talk to you. )
