My friend has those, he says they're "mediocre" but he's a picky bastard (but not a producer or DJ).
I've been thinking about getting some monitors too, so suggestions are also appreciated.

I'd say if you're gonna skimp, then just get a good pair of studio headphones. There is a nice thread in here on which are good, with price ranges and such. Or hit up Etherium about it. |
Yea... headphones aren't really good for mixing, as the stereo image is totally different then normal speakers... You should be doing your mix on speakers first, then see how it sounds on headphones.
Now back to monitors. I have really shitty pair of monitors they are like 2 year old Sony speakers off a mini stereo system. But... I use them to listen to music everyday so I'm used to the quality of them and how they sound. It's important that you listen to commercial music cd's to get the "ear" for how they sound.
Having good monitors is great but if you not used to them then your final master could sound worse then if you masted your song on shitty monitors that you know how they sound...

I'd think about getting some used monitors - look on ebay for Alesis M1 mk II's.
