Question:How do i hook up studio monitors to my soundcard?

Yo, i have bought alesis m1 active mk2 monitor speakers and i havent even had the chance to use them yet they have been lying in the box for months!

So ive finally got my new pc built and am wondering how i can hook em up to my sound card for music production?

They have xlr inputs and i have 2 xlr cables but obviously the sound card wont accept these (IT is a creative labs sounblaster audigy 2 by the way)

Any help with this would really be appreciated guys!

If you live in the states, goto radio shack or guitar center and get the conversion cables or the adapters you need.

you can do all sorts of things with the right cables

i had my comp hooked up to my mixer as well as my ps2 and i recorded a mix i did using audio from the TIC video, some of my records, and a Mauro Picotto liveset that i downloaded all onto a cassette tape that i take just about EVERYWHERE with me

pathetic i know, but hey, im addicted

yup.. if you goto guitar center, you can tell them what you got and they will get you the correct cables w/o any hassle. The cables will prob. cost a bit more. With radio shack, you might need to know a bit more.. at the very least what type of connectors you are going to.

My dad used to have an XLR --> 1/4" connector, so I know this type of thing exists.

The only problem with this setup is that the cables are then unbalanced and this might cause some buzzing noise is the background. It most likely will be unoticable though

Have a sound card with balanced inputs (either 1/4" or XLR).

By the way, the mixer i use in my dj setup is the pio djm 600, i always have had a faint hiss in the backround with this mixer, and everytime im using the effects on the mixer when i hit the on off button i hear a very quiet click.

Maybe somebody could let me know if this happens with all djms? Try it wiht no sound whatsoever apart from the fx channel and hit the button, do u hear the slick click/fizz sound?

Btw, this happenes even with no devices connected to the mixer so it is defo an on-mixer issue!
