this happend in WWI, the germans and british came out of there trenches, buried the dead in no mans land, and traded the christmas rations and presents they got from there respective countries. I believe the British got pipe weed and the Germans got cigarettes and they both got choclates, pretty cool. Apparently Hitler wrote a letter to someone saying how disgusting it was that his country men were betraying there father land by having a truce with the British. |
that happened only one year, 1914, the high commands of both sides saw this as a failure of discipline, and so it didnt happen again for the rest of the war. i saw the documentary on the history channel. can u believe they actually had a football match in the middle of no-mans land?!

At Christmas, 1914, there occurred several informal truces at various points along the trench-lines of Northern France and Belgium. It may well be that there were other places where truces took place, but our precise knowledge of events is limited by the amount of direct, eyewitness testimony which has so far been discovered. Nevertheless, there are enough trustworthy reports (and even a few photographs) to convince us that something extraordinary happened that first Christmas of the war, and that it was not entirely an isolated happening......(CLICK SOURCE TO READ THE ENTIRE STORE, VERY INTERESTING)

Very interesting stuff, and nice link too. Thanks. I've decided to start reading a bit more on WWI lately, since I know pretty much next to nothing about it. This compliments my reading nicely.
