ACC vs BELL CENTER

how come montreal folk can have wicked parties in the bell center and we cant have them in the ACC, is that coz we have venues like the guv, kool haus and the docks??

just wondering?? coz it would be wicked to hold events in the acc or maybe even the sky dome.

sorry if i missed this in a previous discussion.

Same reason they have multiple "true" afterhours clubs and our city can only support one. We simply do not have a large enough clientele to cater to such events like Cream, BEB, etc.

sure we do...scene in toronto is ALOT bigger here than it is in montreal...

we have more clubs that play beats/more record stores/ALOT more variety in club nights...

we dont have parties in the acc because the government here doesnt allow it...

which suits me just fine. id rather party all night in a small tight room than a massive warehouse/arena anyways but hey thats just me...

ps. biggest diff in montreal + toronto...everyone in montreal is on speed...thats why their parties go so late lol

Haha, that might be true but I doubt it's the "biggest" difference.

It's not just about the numbers, EDM in general is more mainstream there so you get more of a mainstream crowd at all kinds of events. Here there tends to be a pretty big elitist/sketchy/tourist/fob crowd, which is exactly what would freak the government out if an event was ever held in the Skydome or some other huge public place.

Also we may have more record stores and clubs but that doesn't necessarily mean we have more patrons. Clubs here are empty a lot. Most of the "scene" is swallowed up by the Guv and that's more of a bar scene than a club scene. Competition has been on the rise this year, which is good - the scene's been getting a little more healthy and if it continues that way then we might actually be able to once again hold events in massive venues like the BLC... (haha)

i agree with you, but then yet again maybe floorwhore is right in a sense that toronto has a much bigger hip hop scence than an edm scene. anyway thats my guess.

i disagree with this .. we've had large parties before numbering between 10,000 - 15,000 patrons ..

i believe the reasons are more political than scene related.. since the bylaws that were enacted back in 2001 the scene has literally secluded into clubs and there have virtually been no more massives in Toronto and the way things are looking right now it's not about to change anytime soon ..

Can you please outline these bylaws? I can't find anything about them anywhere.

I agree that the reasons behind the state of parties in Toronto are mainly political, I just think that the scene itself has changed as a result of those laws and a lot of people ignore that. If they got rid of all the by-laws tonight, the scene wouldn't suddenly go back to the way it was in 1999 tomorrow.

Julian Fantino and the stupid ass mentality we have here inflamed by the press and the politicians. Not to mention the restrictive bylaws. French people dont buy into the BS as much.
