Noob Help -- Thanks

I have been mixing for around a half a year, but now would like to try out new things. I'm wondering about the best progs and what they do. I bet this has been covered before and I'm sorry. I'm wondering about progs for: Creating Tracks, Editing Mixed Tracks, etc. Please, help me out, and I'm sorry for those who might be angered by this thread
I already have the latest releases of most programs dealing with this, but I'm wondering where I should focus my attention and what each program can do.

Thanks

when i first opened up fl studio

my response was favourable. i could do stuff. reaction = 'hey this is alright, im making some funky shit!' of course, with the benefit of hindsight i was making total shite but i didnt notice it then. eheheh.

when i first opened up ableton live delta...

i was like 'heeeey this is pretty groovy. can get a beat working. can swap in loops. take em out. make fills. got vanguard working on it. all good. very logical layout.'

when i first opened reason adapted...

my initial response was 'shit, i cant get any sound from any of the instruments. on redrum i can get a shit sounding snare drum to play. spent ages wiring subtractor and eventually got it to sound but then the piano roll pissed me off and the mixer confused me so i eventually just went "ahhh fuck this shit." and uninstalled it.'

when i first opened up logic in my uni's music department...

i immediately thought 'holy fucking shit - where is everything?!' tried the help file which was incredibly unhelpful. wasted some time trying to get ES2 to work. it loaded up but i couldnt get any sound out of it. failed. tried to get a kick drum going. couldnt figure out how to do it. severe brain ache ensued. then i kept thinking about how logic has the most ironic name - it couldnt be more illogical to my fruity loop shaped brain. overall a nightmare experience.

when i first opened up MAGIX music maker (free on a pc format coverdisk! WOW!)...

initial response was 'whoa man, i can like, record my guitar!' so i did on a mic that came free with my pc. sounded terrible! but at the time it was the coolest thing ever. i rearranged the garage demo song that came with it and was like 'yea man! im remixing this shiiiit!' ahhh naive youth...
