These wristbands are getting out of control.

Okay,

Now I'm a cyclist, and I work at a cancer hospital, so I can feel for cancer patients (and cyclists), and I support the Livestrong bracelets. I even wore one for about 3 months a year ago, when they first came out, until I lost mine. Lately I've seen bracelets of every color for every cause. From the fight against breast cancer, to any charity you can think of, they've symoblized some sort of fund raiser for charity or support for a cure for one disease or another, again which I have no problems with as it sticks with the original message.

Now these come along.

A blue wristband to say you are against Bush, or a red one if you're for him. To me these totally destory the purpose of the original bracelet, and besides being stupid, is an insult. It would be like 5-10 years ago, when colored ribbons were the "in" thing, someone wearing a ribbon that symbolized their hatred for democrats. It's taking a fad, meant for the good of others, and using it to spread your own political agenda.

Maybe I'm getting bent out of shape about nothing, but I think these people are idiots.

Yeah, there should only be one item for each part of the body. Lance is the original, we got ours!

I suggest.

Livestrong yellow bracelet.
Cancer pink bandana
Osteoporosis orange sweatband
aids green necklace
alzheimers purple sunglasses

My problem with the wristband is that most people now wear them as part of some stupid fashion statement and have absolutely nothing to do with the original intent... I mean of course thats what they SAY but am I really going to believe someone for example, a girl, who wears Ugz, fade sunglasses and has an LV bag with a Coach jacket? NOOOOOOOT likely!

No, I agree with that as well. In fact, that's half the reason I didn't get a new Livestrong band when I lost my old one. As I saw it turn from a statement against cancer to one for fashion, I realized the reason I was wearing it wouldn't be taken to mean what I wanted it to mean. It kind of swept the whole sports scene, with football players and the like wearing them, and then it just became this wide-spread fashion "I'm cool" statement. It's really too bad. I'd love to know what Lance thinks about it, especially with all the knock-offs going around.

Last time I saw him, he was still wearing his yellow band... though that was maybe a month or so ago...

Republicans wearing a red bracelet? Anyone else see any irony in this? I wouldn't read too much into this except that there is always money to be made off fools in the US.

BTW i saw some chick with a yellow one, the other day, and when I asked her what it stood for, she said she had no clue but that everyone was wearing them. Ahhhh. . .America the beautiful.

I wear a livestrong bracelet cause I support the cause. My dad survived colon cancer and my grandpa prostate cancer so I see the bracelets and their funds raised as a great thing to support cancer research. I just hate all the fucktards that wear them for no reason except that everyone else is. Oh well. More money to research I suppose.

In the end who cares. The US is full of hollow, fickle people. You just have to ignore them.

Well I kind of think like that (as in there are too many and it's become a fad). But also I'd say so long as the person had to pay for them (make a donation) then they can wear it perhaps?

It kind of depends on how you define the purpose of the band(s). Either to raise awareness. In which case yes these people are acting to the detrement in some ways. But even then since we are talking about it then maybe it worked.

However as spacey did some people won't buy them because of the fad tag, basicly the kind of people who arn't just into the fad and are the target audience.

Or a they are a funding technique in which case the more people who buy them the better. Or at least suposedly, as these fad type will move onto some other fad within 6 month where as the real people who would suport (and possibly rebuy if there wasn't the fad tag) for life.
