scratching cds/records

Hello,

Now that i've seen that zabiela cdj-1000mkII madness I would like to try it on mine. Does anyone know where I could buy a scratch cd that would have the "Arrrrr" sound that zabilea uses? Is there any site that has scratching sounds available for free download? I suppose while i'm on the topic does anyone have the names of your fav scratching records?

thanks.

Your best bet would be to buy a battle record, and rip it, and burn it.

Most generic battle records will have that sample on it along with the good ol "freshness"

Besides, it doesnt hurt to pick up a pair of battle records, because if you're looking at getting into a bit of turntablism, its always best to learn with vinyl.

If you are strictly into the cd format, i guess you could search wherever you buy your cd singles from for a "battle cd"

ITunes right now has a cd Oakey put together with pure scratching sounds on it. Just search for Paul Oakenfold and they have all the sounds you want

I don't think i've ever heard oakey scratch. Kind of funny that he'd be putting out the cd.

As I recall in the days of old he was a hip-hop guy before he discovered Ibiza and trance.

You dont need the cdj's to do what Zabelia does. A lot of scratch records have locked grooves as the last track. That will loop the sound for you. If you are using the cdj's, then you must setup your own loop like in the video.

If you have reason or FL or some other production software, you could create your own scratch sounds.

I am sure many people would know the movie scarface, since i own the dvd edition i want to rip some audio samples and use them such as the classic line "first you get the money, then when you get the money you get the power, then when youv got the power then you get the women." My question is, would these breach copywrite laws, would i be allowed to use this sample if i was to be djing in public?

You can do whatever you want with that sample as long as you dont...

a.) sell it
b.) sell something with it on it

This goes back to the whole white label discussion we were talking about. A lot of tracks are white labels because the artist can't clear the orig. samples on the track. If you are sampling this just to mess around with and play when you spin out, it should be no big deal.

I find it very fun to rip the audio from DVDs, you can always find some new and interesting samples and sounds to play around with.

The NIN album The Downward Spiral... most of the sounds that make up the music were actually samples from movies. One of the guys sat down and just listened to movies (tons of movies, something like 3000 movies) and just sampled the heck out of them. They then took the those, f-ed them up a bit and created what you hear.

Some Scratch vinyls i have in my collection are:

Scratch Roulette... This is filled with farkin stacks of killer voice samples lots of action movies and wack shit.

Special Scratch vols 4,5,6... 6 is my personal fav lots of good gear

Superseal Breaks... Another one of skratchy seals releases by dj qbert one side is killer the otherside like most scratch vinyls consists of a repedative dnb or breaks track thats intended to scratch over but ends up sounding terrible when you do so.

There just a couple of the ones i have it wouldnt be that hard to to what james did once you get the efx500 down pat.

If anyone finds out of many more good quality scratch vinyls lemme know... mainly voice samples or high pitched bleeps and beeps
