It is the choice of instrument, pro 53, bass station and co all have simular instruments which contain a nice "detune" presets effect. Then course, you can always add delay, distortion (maybe even the mda detune effect).

Boardes of canada do this whole detuned melodies efficiently, more than likely where the producers you named gain their inspirations.

lo fi samples pls? i have none of those songs.

a wild guess. if you cant do it on your average subtractive synth it might be to do with harmonics. which would have something to do with frequency modulation (FM synthesis) and tuning the oscillators. on my virus b, you get weird, not quite detuned, screaming kind of sounds by fiddling with the FM rotary and changing the pitch of the 2nd oscillator. you can detune that too but it starts to sound crazily agressive and striking chords sounds weird as hell. if you set the tuning and FM rotary in certain configurations you can get bell like tones (where the harmonic rings out naturally), or you can tune the osc out slowly to turn it into dischord.

the first one sounds like the pitch is wobbling on the lead. i would guess, LFO is set to modulate the pitch on the oscillator and the rate is fairly slow. 2nd one im not sure. the pad? or that benassi bassline? the third one sounds like an FM synth cuz of the harmonics. wouldnt know where to start on making those sounds though. OOF.

i mainly ment melody and theory not the actual sound, but ill take what i can get ;p

id imagine that outhouse tune is in harmonic minor....not sure cuz i dont have the tune or a keybed handy right now

minor keys are handy to work in, depending on the mood you're trying to convey. hell, major keys can be used to effect too...and modes as well

hell while you're at it...might as well make your own scale up...be innovative or whatever

it's definitly a reversed lead-sound. try retrodelay from e-phonic with backwards delays.

the others are some simple sounds you'll get even with subtractive synthesis and a lot of delay.

to the notes. the are very simple and will sound more complex because of the heavy delay. if you listen to the loudest notes you'll hear where the melody sits exactly. but be aware that over the first sample a sidechain compressor sits. which this pumping effect create.
