first song.... uplifting trance

alright guys... this is embarassing for me to put up because i am very critical of my work. i dont think it's very good for a n00b production.

anyway... its some uplifting trance that i made overnight... you can d/l it at this link:

http://s20.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=...CAA83543BD60366

Track name - - - - D:res - Phantasmagoria
Duration - - - - - 8:13
Quality - - - - - -320 kbs
File Size - - - - -18.8 mb

any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. please keep all critisism constructive

also, in your feedback, please give me advice on what types of stuff i can do to improve the song... dont say, "delte it all and start over"

posted twice? consider deleting one bro!
Okay...this is a monster file! 18.8 MB!! (oh! 320kbps...THATS WHY)

Weak intro. Too thin on the pads...try establishing some "movement" on that synth...experiment with LFO's or add some embellishment using FX and stuff.

Kick is okay. merely ok. I like the bass-synth...sounds deep and full. Here's the break. Again a weak synth that sounds terrible with that sweep. DOnt like that synth...but the melody is good and the percs help it along. Kinda. At 4:10, jumping up an octave is killin me hear...ouch. NO NO!!

Gets a bit monotonous too... try adding a simple counter melody line and intertwine the two. It adds depth and sophistication to a piece.

That last minute and a half.... why?

You need to focus, also, on proper mixdown and mastering...EQing can help, but especially work on compressing the kick to get more outta it...also the synth after the break is too loud IMO.

If I sound critical, please don't think its terrible...just trying to be a help bro!

Your strengths:

Nice melody lines
Good accompaniment with percs and other synth.
Excellent comprehension of structure and musical theory!

KEEP UP MAN!

hey d-res
--------------------------------------------
beginning needs more layers of pads, try adding a little reeverb to it. kick is kinda ok, it needs to be a little bit more phatter (if you're using fruity loops, add a blood overdrive, and a bass boost. the melody gets kind of old, so id say like digital said, add something to spice it up, maybe along the way add more instruments/pads/whatever to it; you can add a little more reeverb to it. im listening to it as i type, and it's getting kind of 'yawn'.... lol... hmmm oh yeah as for the beat add more patterns, try to vary it a bit more, add more sounds to it and so on.... and for the last few minutes uhmmm either take it out or try to make it more interesting... for this i would suggest listening to 'petter - all together' and get some ideas on how he keeps it interesting towards the end of his song. Sorry if all this doesnt help!

overall its not 'that' bad for a noob track... i've heard worse.. *cough* me *cough* hah ok...
--------------------------------------------
keep it up! and dont give up
see ya later man
