Monitors/Subwoofer placement

last week i bought an M-audio Audiophile usb-soundcard together with a pair of M-audio studiophile monitors and a Samson 10" subwoofer.

The shape of my room is a square (4m x 4m)

Where do I have to place my subwoofer? In a corner? In the midle of the room (wall)? At what frequency? 70Hz?

and what about my monitors? One is standing next to my PC.. could that harm my HD?

thx in advance!

VyliX

nah, im pretty sure hdd's are magnetically sheilded

with the sub it would make sense to make it start at the lowest frequency your monitors can accuratley reproduce and it doesnt matter what position the sub is in really, but the best idea would be to place it on a solid surface (the ground) and the corner is fine

here is one of the best ways of placing your sub:

put the sub right where your listening position would be (your chair for example). Then crawl around your room and find the spot where the bass sounds most accurate (Not boomy, not weak). Then take your sub, and put it there.

Generally if you put a sub right in a corner it will sound too boomy and unnatural.

Hey if Hsu Research says thats how its done (and they do) then that is good method.

As for the computer and monitors the HDD is probobly not very shielded but the monitors you bought probobly are (looke for "video shielding" on the box). If you are not sure about this you put one of them right next to a TV or CRT monitor (don't know if LCDs work) and if the colors on your monitor/TV freak out it is not shielded.
