Bet Donald Rumsfelds fingerprints are all over this one as well..but will it be proven probably not..i remember it was about feburary this year when 5 uk prisioners were released from guantanamo after serious pressure from the uk government..and they alledged widespread abuse there and they went public about it..their allegations were dismissed as nonsense..we all know what happened next..but on a more serious note it makes a mockery of the geneva convention and any protests by the americans about its enforcement in times of war sound hollow indeed

well see, the men being held at guatanamo bay are the equivalent of spies. they are not enemy combatants, therefore they are not protected under the geneva convention. the men being held are gurrilla(however u spell it) fighters, wearing no uniform, and hiding out posing as common people.

correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure spies have the right to a fair trial as well (even tho it will probably not be in public).

They are just shoveling new shit on an old pile. The media must cling onto some other crisis in Iraq now.

Ok, one...you cannot march into a foreign soveriegn state and arrest their "spies"

Two...they were fighting for the Taliban (you know, the soveriegn rulers)

I know America makes excuses based on technicalities like you have just done but one it still does not justify it and it also endangers the lives of American (and British/Australian/etc) soldiers who will probably not be treated like the Geneva convention says in future conflicts...(not that that bothers Bush and co)

Who's Tortured?

What prominent conservative commentators have said about prisoner abuse

by Matt Welch

quote:
brief excerpt:

But we now know that many of the shocking images from Abu Ghraib that we've been allowed to see —the hoods, the dogs, the sexual humiliation, the photography, the beating —have occurred elsewhere in Iraq, Guantanamo, and Afghanistan; and in many instances they reflect nothing more than official United States policy. How we respond, whether conservative, libertarian, liberal or other, will tell us a lot about what we've become.

Yeah, thanks for enforcing the point (in which I bolded in the aforementioned excerpt.)

Much of our society wallows in a torpid state of denial, but at least it's good to know that the moron who posted above me isn't contributing to the gene pool in my hometown.
