question about recording a mix directly onto computer...
I just bought a Sony Vaio minitower today and have attempted to hook my mixer directly to it by using my record out on my mixer and the red and white audio inputs on the front of my computer. But for some reason I can't figure out to to record. The guy at CompUSA told me you can record the mixer's output, but I am lost. Anyone know how I can work this? Again, on teh front of my computer there are white and red rca type inputs. thanks
You need a recording program. Soundforge is one you could try (it's the one that's comming off the top of my head) You also need to setup your soundcard to record from a specific port. You may have to do this in the Sony Mixer (if there is one, I have never bought a Sony and I have no idea if they have their own mixer software) so, what you can do is
Start > Programs > Accesories > Enterainment > Volume Control
click options, then tick recording
select Aux or Auxiliary. This will make your computer "listen" on the Aux ports, which are those red/white ports. If you don't see an Aux or anything related to that, you may have to add them;
Volume Control
click options
look around in "Show the following volume controls"
I tried it and it didn't work. How would I know if the computer can hear the sound coming out of my mixer? I don't think that my computer volume mixer has an AUX channel.
I'd say just get an RCA to headphone jack adapter and plug it in to your line-in in the back of your soundcard.

That would work too. Why do that when you already have the ports available to you?

I believe if you set it up correctly, you can hear it comming out of your computer's speakers.
switching to record in the properties (VERY IMPORTANT)
settings: (I'v selected Aux = RCA ports on my Audigy Front Panel)

ok, I'll try that tomorrow.
Anyway, I aquired a demo copy of soundforge hoping that I can get it to work using it. But I tried messing around with it for awhile and still can't seem to get it to hear the audio....I'm, not sure how to select the front RCA inputs through sound forge...
