Long Review
I was there...I'd never been to Glow. Here's my (long) take on Glow--
I saw the late show of "Napoleon Dynamite" at the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse with my family. "Napoleon, what are you going to do today?"
"Whatever the HECK I feel like! GOSH!"
so I left later than I thought. It didn't help I tried to follow some maps.yahoo.com directions. Luckily, the Capitol is a big enough landmark I could find the area. Parked on the street 3 blocks away, walked over.
The line was slow, I waited ~15 minutes. I tried to think warm thoughts and ignore the 25 degree weather. I was a bit sketched out by the people in line with me--literal transcription "Dude, Player for Real, I thought we were going to Dream, but we're at FURRRRR. I got my weeks pay in cash, & I'm spending it."
Through the metal detector, then my gum got confiscated. I've never been to a club with a metal detector before. In San Francisco they practically do a full cavity search looking for drugs, but I usually got to keep my gum.
Mourning my Eclipse gum, I paid my $20 cover charge. Red Bull & Absolut--$12! (most expensive I've ever seen) Red Bull & No-Name Vodka--$11. The extra dollar is well worth it.
The club setup was interesting. The DJ's were high up on a ledge at the front, high enough that there was an overhanging lip. This created an open areaa, as people danced back far enough so they could angle up & see the DJ. There were warrens of private rooms/VIP lounges at the sides & back of the room.
The Male/Female ratio was about 75/25--whether that's usual, or most girls stayed home cause it was Christmas, I don't know. I'd ended up wearing a blue top & Jeans. I saw plenty of other people in Jeans too, though the overall vibe was dress-y.
The music was GREAT. I'd planned to stay about an hour, just to check the place out. But like all good intentions, this fell by the wayside as I was having too much fun dancing. The sound system was a little over-bassed. The light system was impressive. & the crowd, though not jam-packed, were digging the sets. The hiphop people stayed upstairs. I scored a free Dan Sampson CD as a bonus.
Right around when I got in--
"You are Sleeiping" PQM.
I can't really add any tracks beyond that & those already ID'd, except the next to last song which went "The day is cold--the night is long" very appropriate for a winter party. I ended up staying til I got swept out at closing time.
I ended up meeting a few other Trance Addicts right near the end of the night (hi Mario). How to tell a TA:
Up in the front, dancing & DJ watching
Will not only ID a track, will ID the remix.
Stays til the end.
Overall, I was really glad I went. Every weekend in December, I've been in a completely different place, hearing electronic music--
EuroTrash Disco in Chiapas, Mexico
Rabbit in the Moon in Austin, Texas
Markus Schulz in San Francisco, CA
I wish Austin, TX had a place like Glow. I am jealous, & I'll definitely come back when I'm in DC. Other highlight of the night--driving back on Constitution Ave through the moon-lit city past the monuments, over the Potomac.
