How does one go about ranking a sound system in terms of quality?

I am trying to pick out a system for my home studio, and there are a few clubs I have been in that have completley unrivaled sound quality. One of the better ones I have been in is the Mod Club in Toronto, where the bass was able to shake absolutley everything off of the tables without distorting at all. Also, the Dynacord Alpha system at BOA is pretty hot as well. I am just wondering if there is some sort of system in place to gage distortion and quality ranking. Thanks!

If I can only feel and hear the bass and kinda sorta make out the highs then it's bad IMO, if I can feel and hear the bass well and hear the highs very nicely it's GOOD. Most of the time it's bad, at least to the clubs I have been too...

Bad sound dynamics, tisk tisk.

Well in these clubs the bass is incredible, but it doesn't overwhelm the highs. Everything from 1k hz up is crystal clear and balances with the massive bass.

I still say when you go into everyone should just get a pair of wireless hd25s/280s with volume control. That way everyone would have good sound quality, and only the idiots who want to damage their hearing can do so.

I guess that would sort of destroy club culture though.

Also...i sometimes judge a sound system by how loud my ears are ringing the next day. The worse the sound system, the greater the ring. It's because the clarity of the sound coming out of a speaker could be clear(ears dont ring next day) or could be just loud, and u think it sounds clear but the volume is just blasted.
