Mixing without amp + speakers

Hey everyone.

When I joined here a month or so ago, people gave me recommendations on what kind of decks, mixer, and headphones I should buy.

But I was just curious about speakers and an amplifier, is it generally considered good for a beginner DJ to use only headphones? I mean I'm just starting out and have a fixed budget, but from what I've been hearing, DJing with only headphones is a bad way to practice and begin.

Should I save money up for speakers and an amp?

Is there any way to hook it up to my computer?

I really don't think I'll be able to afford speakers and an amp for a while, but my computer speakers and bass unit are decent (for a computer) -- hell its better than nothing.

Get one of these and you can plug your mixer right into your souncard or computer speakers, or just about any other home stereos, tvs etc...

Although active monitors are usually quite a bit more expensive than regular ones.

Speakers are usually something that is necessary to be able to mix well. If you have to play in a club one day, and you've never mixed through speakers, you are going to have a very hard time mixing...

Any speakers will do for now, you can always buy some better speakers later on.

Just get some shitty little powered speakers for £50, and then buy better ones when you got the paperwork - Sapphires sell some cheap sets, www.decks.co.uk

I just have my mixer running into my stereo, an old Sony I got from a pawn shop. Not the best but it definitely gets the job done.

Well I'll look into getting some cheap speakers and an amp,

but in the meantime does anyone know anything about the "SoundMAX Integrated Audio" soundcard? It came with my computer, I think I'd have to have a line-in to get the music to play through my computer and to record to my computer also (I'd also be interested in recording my mixes since I'm just starting, and it'll give me something to listen to on the way to class for practice and stuff).

Also can anyone give me some price-feasible recommendations on speakers + amplifier or active monitors? (btw, monitors are essentially just speakers and amp in one right?) thanks.
