Confused Whats the Diff between all that trance??

This may seem like a silly arse question, but whats the difference between all the "Named"Trance?

I like trance quite a bit, and listen to a fair amount of diff djs, but it seems that alot of it is quite similar, yet still the djs are listed under different sub-genres of trance.....

In My Book

Trance: Pretty much everything that we enjoy here. under this is stuff like Push, Fire n Ice, Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, etc.....

DreamDance - All that Titanic/braveheart crap.

Asian Trance - This is too cute for real music. don't even bother with this shit (DJ mystik and the whole www.hypnotika.org crew)

i think thats all!

my 2 cents

epic/uplifting: has strong melodies--this is most of the stuff you hear about on this board. eg fire & ice and silverblue

progressive: track elements slowly morph. eg sasha and satoshi tomiie

hard trance: harder usually with a dark feel to it. eg scot project and hypetraxx

thats not a complete list by far--thats just the stuff im familiar with.

lets not forget...
goa/psy trance - really fast transitions, very "psychadellic/trippy" sound.

I think he was asking for sub genre's such as epic, uplidting and progressive. Dreamdance is not TRANCE so that's a pretty useless reply!

types of trance/music thats talked about on here, onyl in my opinion though, feel free to correct me:

epic/uplifting trance (melodic trance with an uplifting melody)
melodic trance (trance with a distinguishing melody to it)
prog trance (half breed of prog / trance)
prog (progressive house, that morphy wierd sasha stuff as he said b4)
chilled trance (trance with a slower bpm or a more gliding structure)
tek-trance ( dont know exactly, a half breed of techno and trance?)
hard trance (soild beat n bassline usually, other harsh elements, "bangin" hehe)
theres also dark prog and tribal prog but i dont know much about them
last but not least:
psy/goa trance (jsut edited this one in, sort of trippy trance, like that guy said hehe, mellow)
)CHEESE - trance which soudns liek some random dj wannabe made a tune on dance E-jay

Hard Trance, I believe.

While we're on this subject, could someone clarify the difference between techno and trance? I tell people that I like trance, and they all give me a dazed look until I tell them it's somewhat like techno, but I know they're not the same. Isn't techno more beat-oriented (recycled rhythms, stupid sfx) than most trance, which is on the melodic side (with synths, vocals, etc)?
