Soundcard help

im thinking about buying the Maudio audiophile 2496 and have a few questions 1st.

1) what is the difference between the USB and normal one (PCI?) will the non-usb just slot in like my existing current card?

2) what would i use the 2in2out for?? I currently have my midi USB/monitors/reason...

3) my current SB Live card 16 or 24bit/44khz doesnt sound to good in reason and when recording from my mixer, would this sound quality be heaps better, considering its 24bit/96khz??

thanks everyone

Don't get the USB audiophile - it sucks, I know from experience

the RCA outputs on the 2496 are a pain in the ass. I would get the 24/192 - it has 1/4 outputs.

I don't see why you're recording in your mixer for reason - reason can export without recording.

The only advantage you would get is using ASIO over regular audio which can increase performance quite substantially. Also, if you record audio, there will be almost no noise with the audiophile, whereas sound blasters have lots of noise.

There is hardly an audioble difference between 16/41 and 24/96 - and what difference there is, mp3s take it away

sorry, what i meant was that, when recording from my mixer (eg. from cds or turntables) i dont get a clear recording. And when using reason, the sounds quality doesnt sound the best.

would this be the soundcard?? but then you said, there is no difference between 16/41 and 24/96, so im confused?

thanks for your help!

Are you recording audio into the computer? If so then you should have a breakout box like a USB-based interface. The A/D process is seperated from the box and the only signal going into the box is digital. PCI interface's that have A/D converters are prone to picking up noise from the vibrations of your computer. There are some PCI-based cards that have breakout boxes though.
