Linux Production Studio in 3 Flavors

AGNULA (acronym for «A GNU/Linux Audio distribution», pronounced with a strong g) is the name of a project funded by the European Commission (number of contract: IST-2001-34879; key action IV.3.3, Free Software: towards the critical mass).

This linux operating system is specifically designed for a studio on a computer. Though it may take some reading or learn as to what it does. There are over 100 music applications. And you can even create your own synths. It comes in two flavors. Debian and Redhat. I have installed in personally and found that it runs really smoothly and the GUI ROCKS! I used Demundi the debian install.

PlanetCCRMA (KARMA)

The Stanford University Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics is a multi-disciplinary facility where composers and researchers work together using computer-based technology both as an artistic medium and as a research tool.

I have not used this one but it is Redhat Based.

I have not used this one and it is Mandrake based
Here is a site for Rpms for Mandrake based distro called THAC rpms (rpms for Mandrake) I am not to knowledgeable on what this is. Never really liked mandrake.

Enjoy testing these distros out. The only one I have used thus so far is Agnula and it kicks major ass!! There is soo much to experiment with. At the same time there is a a buttload of sequencers, synths and much much more. Heheh I farted.

I know these are just an OS and no vsti support has been talked about for linux. If you really want that Wine would have to be used in this occasion. For more information I highly recommend this website for learning how to apply vsti support to linux distros. It is recommended that you install a OS from above then use this link below to setup the rest. It will save you a lot of time unless you are not a newbie and you know what you are doing. Enjoy

One last page. If you have install the OS learned a bit how to get sound which requires some reading. Then I suggest you go here to read a bit more on what else you can use within Linux for audio purposes.
