say you're starting a prog/trance radio show (for my school) how does one go by obtaining the latest releases from labels? On all the major radio shows we hear the hosts play the latest tunes..how does one begin the momentous task of obtaining new material?

My guess would be connections. I am sure this is a great place to find them.

i don't think you'll get free promos if you're only doing a show for your school!

but try to message some labels!

Sign up to a load of mailing lists and you'll get shit free records, convince them your Sasha and you'll get sent good stuff.
