Dunno Have A Made A Good Purchase Here?

Hey peeps, was just wandering, I've been into production for a year or two now and thought it was about time I investigated the DJing scene. I'm reeeeally low on cash being a student, but I've just picked up 2XStanton Str8-80s with DJ Craze 520SK needles, an SK-6F mixer, pro 60 phones, connections and a mic in new condition for £225 as an unwanted christmas present. I know that these tables and mixer are aimed at the intermediate scratch and turntablist market, but considering www.htfr.com are selling a single Str8-80 deck new for £229 I think I had a bit of a steal! What I wondered though was whether the more experienced of you out there could let me know whether this is on a OK set-up to start mixing progressive trance on effectively.... I'm a total n00b and I've read a lot about the differences between the straight arm and the S-shape and I'm a little confused as to whether this set-up is OK.... Just wondered if any of you peeps could give me some opinions and tips on this matter! Thanks very much guys, Matt

Its alright.

If you stick with it, you will want to upgrade eventually, but otherwise it might suit your needs.

Yep...Its alright. Its better to save up for the proper set up. You will end up paying for the "proper" setup anyway might as well do it right the first time. What you will notice is, once you master your current set up...the "better" stuff will be so much easier. I did the same thing too.

I started out using the str8-80s and they did the trick for me. I recently played on some Technics and I think it's about time for me to upgrade. I upgraded my mixer to a djm600 and I think it wants some new friends...

Yeah 80's are great decks to learn on... Its what i have at the moment... got them cheap a while back and still havent got around (got cash) to updating them but they got enough torque and keep spinning long enough for you to learn and on top of that they get your skills refined because the pitch control is so sensitive.

Thanks for your replies guys; got them home a couple of days ago and I'm well chuffed with them, . I'm quite surprised at the amount of torque, I'd heard pretty bad things elsewhere. Well, I better get back to practicing, I've got to iron out that typical n00b problem of getting 'B-BUM B-BUM B-BUM' bouncing kick drums when beatmixing, ! Cheers peeps!
