real player sucks, that's why nobody puts their sets in it. proprietary , advertisement and DRM ridden crap, i don't need that shit on my PC, MP3 does just fine for mix sets.
and, many people don't know this, but you can stream an MP3 off a server just fine usually. try this, copy the shortcut in my sig, open winamp, go add URL, throw in the URL, then hit play, and it will stream just fine.
Real Players advertised itself as the perfect streaming format and all that, but all it really is a way to get advertisements on your desktop.

While I too hate Real Player, and see no use for the format, if you MUST use real audio (chemical-records.co.uk ), google for "real alternative" and use that instead.

hmm.. media formats. fun shit.
a) Real, as mentioned, sucks ass. it sounds bad, licensed to all hell, and only supported by one shitty ad-laden piece of crap player
b) MP3, the defacto standard, makes poor use of bandwidth and sounds horrific above 8 or 10khz. It also has licensing issues.
c) FLAC, AAC, etc etc.. are very unsupported
that leaves Ogg Vorbis. Free, sounds good even at higher frequencies, uses less bandwidth for the same audio quality... fairly well supported, and all open source / zero royalty.
i've made my choice
