This showed me that 2004 wasn't a bad year at all for electronic music in my opinion, as making a shortlist, picking 20 tracks from the shortlist and ordering them was a pain in the ass (well, a rather fun pain in the ass ). Some musical directions safely sticked with the formulas becoming uninteresting to me and collecting a lot of hate (epic trance, "mcprog"), others seemed to disappear (the Bonzai labels that were on fire at the start of the year then suddenly went nowhere), but some people came up with several fresh, innovative directions at least to my ears (James Zabiela, James Holden and Border Community's "pixie trance", Pryda that definitely made an impact on me with only 2 records, etc).
Thanks to the producers that had the work and inspiration to these tracks, and to the future producers that keep trying to shape horrid noises for hours in the hope something decent will come out.
