I’m for legalizing all or illegalizing everything.
Yes, many illegal drugs are dangerous. But how about the legal drugs with major problems, like Effexor? The FDA lets these drugs fly through safety checks because they’re required to. The FDA couldn’t pay to test the # of drugs that companies submit, so they made a deal with the companies that they would pass a percentage of the drugs submitted if the companies did self-tests that meet FDA guidelines. Additionally, nicotine and alcohol are made legal, both with additives to make them increasingly desirable and thus addictive.
You've got to stand on one side of the fence or the other: either illegalize everything (incl. caffeine, alcohol, etc) included, or legalize it all. What people ingest is their business.
However, if someone commits a crime under the influence of any drug, they should be punished. Drug influence is not a legitimate excuse for any reason. Blaming the drug is true drug abuse.
