Money
etc...
Those sorts of things. To initially "go out" with someone, you must find some sort of appeal within them, whether that's looks or money or some other sort of attractant that society has led you to believe will foster happiness. But also keep in mind how often relationships wear out - things turn grey, the feathers fade. All that is left between two people is not something gender can differentiate. Your social inhibitions get in the way of seeing other men with the same capacity you might see women in. However, love is a totally different thing that dating. 
edit: Oh, and I'm not a girl. But considering how threads aimed specifically at females tend to get locked around here, I think I better start things off right. hehehe
