Just the basics..

Okay just lemme know k guyss...
what can I get for USD 800. I posted a while back but I never got round to doing anything about it coz I got a soundsystem for my car instead..=P

My priorities are a professional soundcard and a MIDI controller. If theres leftovers then maybe suggest a pair of monitors? though I think those would blow my budget.

Yeah I'm just starting out so IMO those are all I need to start. I've got softsynths n stuff so do lemme know if theres anything else I need.

cHeeRssssS!!

First things first... a soundcard is definitely the first and foremost item ...I started with (and still use) a Audiophile 24/96 which is fairly inexpensive. This one also acts as a midi input/output device so you don't need to get an extra midi port. Then you'll need some type of sequencer/music workstation (preferably one that can accept your VST softsynths!) In all honesty, I'd really check out some of the new upcoming winners like Cakewalk's Project5 II and Reason 3 (P5II will kick major butt!!!)

Do you have a midi keyboard or controller? That's the next essential. It's possible to make stuff with a mouse and computer keyboard....but if you can play piano or keys then I suggest getting something with at least a 3 octave range.

Okay...THEN you can spring for some studio monitor speakers. Leave this one till after you've got the rest, cause you don't want to just use LEFTOVER money..you'll need to buy something around $800 in my mind. Check out Tannoy Active Reveals. You can also opt for earbuds or headset which I hear are great alternatives! (But you can't bring the house down with earbuds once you produce a masterpiece!!)

Good luck!
