hopefully they will do something that will actually boost the economy and not just talk about it as they usually do... the EU really has a great potential that is currently not beeing used fully...

Perhaps they should buy US debt.
It will weaken the Euro, strengthen the dollar, and bring a better return on interest then investing it in their own economy

Mr Barroso's address, entitled Partnership for European Renewal, contained few specifics and a great many generalities about bringing Europe closer to its citizens, more prosperity and turning words into action.
And that paragraph probably sums it up....
Its really the bigger economies in europe that have the most problems with stagnent or non existent growth Germany and France being the most problematic due to their ancient labour laws and powerful unions, other large economies do very well Britian being the best example.
But with the enlargement of the EU in 2004 i think this will shake things up and make the larger economies compete, because if they dont the jobs and new investment into Europe will go to these lower cost economies that have recently become full members. But overall i would be optimistic and i think the enlargement will add a lot to the growth prospects of the EU....but it will take some time before a better picture emerges...but i think it will happen

i agree. the enlargment will really do a lot of good to the EU, party because it will bring more competition, but also because i think that these countries will soon be prosperous countries that will be significant economies and will therefore make the EU a bigger market and therefore also boost the old EU countries' economies...
