I used to like Technics a lot, but I have changed my liking of decks. I now prefer Vestax. I know many of you prefer the Technics but the Vestax are so much better as an all round DJ turntable. Okay, I know I'm probably in for an argument here but I would just like to say how Vestax have improved my DJing. Firstly Technics 1200s have been around for ages and all the new 12xx series turntables are still built on the old foundation that took Technics to the top, but the TT's were not originally designed for DJing, where Vestax were. Vestax have up to 60% pitch adjust, too much really, but good for inventive mixes. Technics pitch adjust should be 8% right? But when digitally measured over 100 brand new TT's the pitch adjust is only 6.3% and if you change the calibration on pitch adjust under the platter, bye bye warranty. If you touch the side of your Technics platter it will slow down and when you let go it will speed up past the current pitch adjust for a moment and then rest at the current pitch adjustment, whereas on Vestax it doesn't go past the current pitch speed. Another good feature is the availability to choose how fast or slow the turntables pick up or stop resectively is on the Vestax, where Technics only let you use the on/off switch and start/stop button. And Vestax has a straight tone arm, limiting skating, jumping, skipping and there is no auto-return, which stops embarrasing moments of the tone arm lifting during mixes to the end of the vinyl. However Vestax have no pitch dots, which I believe not to matter as all TT's are properly calibrated during manufacture.
That is only my personal opinion and a few facts I have picked up, I would recomment Vestax also as older Technics 12xx have a click at the 0% pitch adjust.
