Stanton - Yeah/Nay

As far as vinyl/turntable DJ'ing is concerned I'm pretty virgin. I really want to learn and get started but sadly on current wages I'm a bit...Shit out of luck when it comes to being able to afford any of the newer or even older models of Technics and the like, turntables.
I've been given a great offer on some newer Stanton turntables though and need a bit of feedback on whether they are eve worth it.

Any info is great.

do you know what model of stanton decks? And what is the offer?

If the model is a str8-80 or higher, it's usually a good deck. (be sure the pitch fader keeps a steady pitch, b/c when i bought my str8-100 years ago the fader died after a couple of years and was almost imposiable to get a replacement)

It's actually a full package deal. Two Stanton Str8-40/60's (can't remember), a generic p.o.s. mixer and some "Mid-level" headphones all sitting around $500.

I don't see much on here about Stanton equipment though so I was a bit leery

Package deals are bad...and so are those decks. Like Chex said, nothing lower than Stanton STR 80's

I found the link again to the e-store. http://www.turntablelab.com/equipme...on-budget1.html

I know it's probably arcaic in comparison to the newer equipment out there..But as far as extremem budget limitation and just getting started are considered, from my position is it even wortht he trouble?

To be perfectly honest with you, save up for a few more months to a year and buy good equipment from the start. I did loads of research before buying my gear and I went with top dollar equipment as a first purchase and I have never looked back. Now with that being said, you need to be sure this is something you want to pursue because it gets very expensive very quick and there is no getting around it. Expect to spend at least $300 on each TT and around $500-$1200 on a good mixer that won't limit you as you progress in skill. You'll regret it if you buy garbage for gear and only want to upgrade in 6 months because you outgrew it, and then it costs even more money in the long run.

Oh yea and we haven't even began with vinyl purchases so you have something you can play with your new gear...now it gets way more expensive...

Yeah, that's kind of what I was expecting. DJ'ing is what I do for a job as it is, regularly in a bar (bar, NOT club) and to say the least what they are paying me for is more...mc'ing and fucking around with generic cd's...That's not DJ'ing to me and there is really little pride in it for me now. I have a fan base...woopty dink..It's a backwater town 12 hours north of Vancouve, B.C. Canada. I've been wanting to learn to REALLY DJ for a couple of years, same with producing my own house/trance/techno music. But as alway, living on my own and other expenses always take first priority....DAMN YOU REALITY!!!!!

Another quick question e-stores, Can you trust them? Or even something as generic as e-bay is it worth my time?

if youre looking for a stanton dj package.. look at the 'mix pak pro'.. has stanton str8-80s and some random stanton mixer. im sure you can find a good price for that on ebay or some online shops. however i dont know if you can trust stanton mixers. good luck shopping. oh and you have to realize that once you get your equipment.. new vinyl is like heroine. you better start robbing some banks.

razzi.

i personally haven't tried ebay, but if your lucky, you can find some good deals. Another thing you might wanna try, is order stuff from the USA. There's some places that can ship over the border. A really good, if not great turntable that doesn't cost a arm and leg is the Numark TT500. I've found it for you for $208USD, you can have many places price match this for you in the US like Guitar Center and pssl.com

If its Stanton you're really after I'd say its a safe bet to say that their current models will be down in price a considerable amount come Spring due to their whole image change seen at NAMM. Buy before spring - they'll be selling off all old stock, maybe be able to afford the better models

Save up and get good equipment.

I was too impatient and got low-end tables and I wish I would have waited. However they have served me well, and I've learned much from them. But now, I must save up for technics, and a decent mixer. As soon as my Credit card is in the green I'm goin to max it out again with new decks
