The WWF Australia Frogs! Program is a national conservation program managed by WWF Australia in partnership with the Rio Tinto Group. The program was established to demonstrate a joint commitment to the conservation of frogs and their habitats in recognition of the vital role that frogs play in freshwater ecosystems and biodiversity.
The main aims of the program are to support research, community outreach and education initiatives and facilitate a cohesive national network that strategically links the aims, activities and expertise of individual scientists, educators and regional community groups. The program has conducted a number of tasks and activities over a four-year period including:
* Conservation Action Planning
Assessing the Conservation Priorities for all Australian Frogs, leading to a greater understanding of threats and actions to be addressed.
* Increased Understanding of Frog Distribution and Knowledge.
Creation of educational tools and an informative website, frog publications, field guides, posters, fact sheets, CD-Roms and support of frog surveys across Australia.
* Educational and Community Based Resources
A comprehensive community-based frog program in Tasmania.
* Facilitating National Communication
Formation of a Scientific Advisory Panel and Educational Working Group and three national conferences for frog groups. |
