Re: Problems with back-cueing and mixer

2. My second problem is skipping when back-cueing. I have two Stanton 500 AL II cartridges on both of my S-shaped tonearms and when I slowly move the platter in reverse with my hand, the cartridge wobbles and then skips. Even when I have the tonearm weight on full, it still skips and the anti-skate adjustment doesn't make any difference. Again, any suggestions, comments and/or help would be greatly appreciated.
I am also going to get a new mixer soon and was just wondering what a good mixer is with good sound quality and some good sound effects cause i will be spinning techno. This probably sounds very noobish but i guess thats what this forum is for Thanx in advance. |
I had the same skipping problem with the same carts. First, check out this site: http://www.djforums.com/tutorials/ for how to properly adjust your tonearm. If it still doesn't work, try using the screw on weights that go in the headshell. When you do this, remember to also lower the weight on the dial or you will wear down your vinyl quickly.
Some records just skip when you back cue no matter what you do. It depends on the pressing and other things, it sucks but you just need to deal with it. Either cue at a different point or release it carefully.
As for the mixer, I second what Razzi said. I had a pcv 275 for while as my first mixer and its great. Its got 3 eq's which is key.
hope this helps..
