Question Not totally thrilled with my EMX-1 - is it even worth getting hardware?

Well, my EMX-1 is cool, I will say, but I feel like
a.) the sequencer is bad
b.) lack of velocity sensitivity
c.) lack of polyphony

Just seems a little limited. So I'm going back to GC for a return and I can't decide, is hardware even worth it at all? I could just get an Oxygen-8 and go through Reason 3.0. Is Reason 3.0 good enough? Is it sufficient? Are there hardware synths out there that blow away Reason 3.0 big time?

I'm really confused =( So so much information and techniques and such..hard to start.

Alot of people are never found of Korg products, I dont mind them personally... but i think you would be alot happier with somthing like a Access Virus.. that being said, although nothing will ever sound as good as a virus.. a skilled reason producer can make some very nice stuff.

I just bought a ALESIS Micron and its truly amazing. Its only $400.00 new and its got the same synth engine as the ion with more effects and features and its nice and small as well i suggest u pick one up.

lol theres a preset on here that came stock that sounds nastier than a pile of shit and its name it VIRUS KILLER lol.

It sounds so heavy i cant believe a little machine like this produces this sound.

for a example of the sound im talking about theres a track called (wheres jack the ripper)

i dont know who its by but it sounds like the lead from that track man its heavy.

LoL... we warned you

A groovebox isnt really in the same category as a dedicated hardware synth. Even a cheap synth like the Micron has deep programming capabilities that put your average groovebox to shame. Just one oscillator on my MicroQ would make even the most lavish MC505 patch pack up its shit and get out of town. Theres a reason why you get all those featues in boxes, because they are all fairly cheap and generic and shallow in terms of programming.

But I wouldnt advise going out any buying more hardware just yet. Even a hardware synth is going to keep you very busy in software with editors sysex librarians, controller assignments, midi routing and you'll always end up sequencing on a computer. So if your feeling confused by all this shit, then leave hardware alone for a while.

I'd say get Reason and read the manual, cos its about as intuitive and as accessable as music production gets. You can probably use the keypad on the Korg to trigger in reason. It wont feel quite as good as a real keyboard, but you've spent the money on it, so you might aswell use it, plus I'm sure all those knobs transmit midi, so it will be a good control surface too.
