I’ll be studying (Music industry- & culture studies) at UNI here for another 4 years, so 5 more years of this project could very well be possible. I’ll keep at it for as long I feel the amount of work I put in generates enough for others as well as myself.
To reply to what Xenocreator_PG_ said: Perhaps I didn’t make it clear enough, but I’ll only promote productions I feel have potential to get signed. That’s what I have been doing successfully over the past few years. You see, if I keep sending quality productions to labels and DJs they’ll after a few rounds know that this, the next and the tune after that are all good and worth while listeing to. It’s one of the keys to getting recognition as well as priority with labels – never present anything but quality productions. The other key is to be someone they know, someone or something they can relate to and put priority into instead of going through a pile of promo CDs. Without these two keys, along with a few other interesting but in the context less important keys, the service would be just another mp3.com or a pile of demo CDs.
So how do I do this? How can I make sure the service is recognised for quality music? Well, as my first post hopefully indicates I have previously been able to source, pick-out and promote quality tracks. That’s what I plan to do here too. I wont promote just anyone, that would ruin it for all (see the text above). I’ll use my two ears to decide wether or not to go ahead with a production. The advantage I can get with this portal is getting the word of the service out to “everyone” (labels & hobby producers) instead of keeping it limited to a list of labels. And it’s not mentioned in any of my posts, but the portal will feature lofi-previews and labels will have to request full-versions for download in order to keep tunes away from file networks.. no matter what your oppinion is labels don’t like ‘em and tunes are more likely to get signed if they’re not already widely spread on the Internet.
I appriciate the feedback. I will post more info once I’ve launched the portal, hopefully the impression will see more people taking the first step in trying the service out. For those of you who are interested to try your luck, blindfolded, I’m already accepting demos. Looking forward to more of them!
Regards,
Ralf
