Hello! How do you construct your drumloops in Cubase, etc..?! (screenshots?)

Hi,

I was wondering if everybody who uses Cubase SX (or Logic or whatever you use) could post some screenshots of your arrangement window and perhaps other windows to show what is for you the best way to create tunes, especially how you construct your drumloops so I can get some ideas how to create a good workflow for building drumloops cause I am still trying to figger out the best way to do this. Also give some explanation with the screenshots. If everybody does it we can perhaps learn from each other's way of working, discuss about it, etc.. Please also mention which (drum) VSTi's you use or Reason, etc.. perhaps you can include them in the screenshots.. I hope everybody will participate! Thanks!

For the simple reason that I am just beginning with Cubase SX, sorry I forgot to mention that, so I simply don't have any experience with it. Cubase SX seems great to work out complete tracks with midi and audio etc.. but I can't figger out an easy way to construct drumloops in it like with Fruityloops or Reason for example, so therefore my question, hoping that there are people here who have experience with Cubase. Exporting drumloops from Fruityloops doesn't seem that convenient, so I was wondering how people construct drumloops in Cubase SX (or Logic as it seems similar) and if they could post screenshots to show and explain.

I just Rewire in the drums from Reason and/or Rebirth. If you've got a good drum synth, i suppose you could MIDI up your drum sounds inside Cubase, but I don't think that's done much anymore, not with all the programs like FL, Reason, Rebirth, etc that do drums much better.

1/ So nobody who uses Cubase SX or a similar sequencer to construct drumloops. I thought Cubase SX was popular for dance production.

2/ Regarding Reason or Rebirth, if you rewire it in Cubase, how does that work. Do you then trigger the patterns in ReBirth or Reason's Redrum in Cubase or something? Do you have to go to "song mode" in Rebirth, etc.. and what about Reason? What's the best, most logic way to make all this work together?!

Reason and Rebirth play along in sync with Cubase. I use the song mode in Rebirth to progam the 303's and some of the drums. I write things in the patterns for drums in Reason and use the automation to switch patterns (or turn the pattern off).

2/ and in case of Reason, what do you mean with using the automation to switch patterns?! Do you mean some kind of automation in Cubase or in Reason? Could you please explain? Thanks!

When it's Rewired, it works either way. I usually bang out the drum patterns in pattern mode, then write them into song mode later.

The same goes for the 303 lines. I usually write up the bulk of the song, then record the knob movements when I'm almost finished.

Right click on the pattern buttons to edit the automation. Use the sequencer window to select which pattern plays.
