Hey dipshit. You know WHY there was no competition? Because Nintendo was that dominating in the handheld market. In other words, good games, good systems, happy customers.

If you use your limited gaming knowledge and look back to the early '90s, you'll see that the handheld that came the closest to 1-up-ing the Game Boy was the Game Gear. Unfortunately, Sega didn't have great third party support and it's first-party games were basically all it had.

I bet you didn't know this but the DS is not the NEXT GAME BOY. It doesn't even tout the Game Boy name. Nintendo's higher-ups have already made a statement regarding the PSP and what would be done if they'd see it as a threat. They announced that the next Game Boy was ready and would be released within a year of the PSP release (but first finding out if it's a threat, of course).

i dont really see how you can compare the two, the ds is already raping the psp in sales. to me the psp just has a bunch of useless bling on it and its not worth the $100 extra to get something thats gonna have several dead pixels and DRE's. the fact of the matter is sony= subpar just admit it

Eh..I want the PSP to win, or at least take a good deal of marketshare. Nintendo has been doing nothing but milking the handheld market with SNES ports and rehashes for the past 5 years. Plus, Nintendo's not having competition gave them an excuse to release new versions of an already-existing Game Boy every 2 years.

Now that serious competition is here, they better straighten up.

*if the DS is NOT the next Game Boy (and it isnt, since I heard in an interview that they are releasing ANOTHER handheld in something like a year and a half), then why the hell should anybody buy a DS? Nintendo wont support both (their support for the GBA has practically dissappeared with the exception of a few games), so I see no point in shelling out 150 for a system thats going to be thrown in the closet by their maker in 18 months.

You didn't realize that there were other handhelds on the market before (GameGear, Neogeo Pocket Colour), which were good in there own respects, but couldn't compare to Nintendo's Gameboy. That is why Nintendo has no competition, thus why they have a lock on the handheld market. Hopefully the PSP does take some of the market share so there isn't another blowout in the handheld industry.

Nice try, but the psp costs double the ds price and the games are way more expensive. if thats how bisuness works, then buddy, you dont know jack shit about bisuness.

Err... Actually, the PSP's cost (in America, at least) per unit is going to be somewhere around $175-$185. That's only 25 to 35 bucks more than the DS.

Also, the PSP games are either the same price as DS games ($40 ~ For some) or $10 more. Not really that much of a difference since you're paying for top-notch graphics and the such.
