Fire risk on Xbox power cords

Fire risk on Xbox power cords; 14 million units affected
BY POPJOURNALISM STAFF
POSTED ON FEBRUARY 18, 2005

Microsoft is recalling power cords on over 14 million Xbox game systems worldwide because they can cause burns and pose a fire hazard.

According to Microsoft, in 30 consoles worldwide, the power cord failures have caused minor injury or minor property damage.

"In seven instances, customers reported sustaining a minor burn to their hand," the company said in a statement. "In 23 instances, customers reported smoke damage, or minor damage to a carpet or entertainment center."

To receive a free replacement cord, Canadians can call 1-866-271-0450 or visit Xbox's power cord replacement page.

The replacement cords should arrive within two to four weeks. Until the cord arrives, Microsoft recommends that Xbox owners should turn off their systems when it is left unattended.

The Xbox recall is only for systems manufactured before October 23, 2003.

you know, this thread brings to mind "fight club". who remembers the formula they said car companies used to recall parts on a car? i remember it had to do with recalling the part if the cost of replacing the part on all existing models would be less than the amount it would take to either dispute a lawsuit or settle one.

i seriously doubt my xbox is going to either a) cause a "minor burn on the hand", or b)burn my carpet. i mean, 30 consoles out of over 14 million is sooooooooooo miniscule.

eh, i'm drunk..........haha. still seems ridiculous to me.

edit:
i just read this "Microsoft recommends that Xbox owners should turn off their systems when it is left unattended." so this means these 30 units which were destroyed were probably left on by idiots trying to save their place for a couple of days. learn to use the "save" function...........

p.s. remember i'm drunk. still, some people are idiots.
