Nominate The Best Electronic Music Artist Ever

I am looking for people to nominate an artist or two that they feel should be seriously considered when discussing the best electronic music artist of all time. With this information, I want to create a poll and a tournament of voting to see whom TAs consider the best of the best. This poll has been held before, but never with nominations from the TA general population, so Im opening the floor.

Rules for nominations:
*Minimum one artist album (5 tracks or more)
*Must be connected in some way to the production of electronic music.
*Artist must receive at least three (3) nominations to move into first round voting.
*Nominations must be accompanied by a short statement providing evidence of why this artist should be considered the BEST ever. Lists of your favorite artists will likely be ignored (unless no other choice is given).

Nominations will be accepted until February 25th at 12:01 AM EST (Eastern Standard Time)

Here are some nominees I expect to include in the voting:

Richard D. James (Aphex Twin)
Oliver Lieb
Raja Ram (1200 Mics) & Simon Posford (Hallucinogen) as Shpongle
Brian Eno
Tijs Verwest (Tiesto)

I think Leftfield deserve to be added to the list.

If Tiesto wins this I'll cry.

Underworld. From Born Slippy to Cowgirl, Pearl's Girl to Dirty Epic... their unique sound can never be put inside a genre box. Live, they are surreal, surpassing all boundaries of music.

Discussion over. Underworld wins.

Re: Nominate The Best Electronic Music Artist Ever

Philip Glass.

From early entrance into a Bachelors of Music program at the age of 14, to his studying of counterpoint with Nadia Boulanger ( ), he has worked with an incredible variety of artists, ranging from Ravi Shankar Brian Eno to David Bowie.

Notable Releases:
Music With Changing Parts
Music In 12 Parts
Einstein On the Beach
Music In the Form of A Square
Music In Similar Motion
Music In Contrary Motion
Music In Fifths
Two Pages

Film Scores:
The Thin Blue Line
A Brief History of Time
Mishima
Powaqqatsi
Koyaanisqatsi

What I like most is his perfect sense of minimalism, the pure simplicity of sound that he transforms into simply magnificent composistions.

-Caleb

ps. if anyone stupid like avb or tiesto wins i am going to commit suicide, i mean seriiously, we're talking about real music here guys!

Hard to choose but i'd pick

BT
- BT has done so much allover the scene, from more poppy stuff to wicked acid, just like his albums vary between slightly housier stuff (Ima) to dreamy trance & breaks (ESCM) to hiphopish breaks (MISL) to a bit more mainstream, almost pop/rock style tracks (ET) and not forgetting his soundtrack of Monster.
- Isn't afraid to try something a little different every once in a while (for example has produced Britney & N'Sync).
- His producing skills are out of this world, he knows his arranging and editing of productions, how to make tracks interesting and good
- All his albums are simply being loved.. ehh.. amazing.

Oliver Lieb
- The man of a million aliases can vary even more than BT without going too much into mainstream.. from calm ambient to hard bangin' techno, weird industrial explorations and everything in between.
- Has yet to fail me with his works so far.
- L.S.G. - Rendezvous In Outer Space, just the right amount of ambient, trance and other flavours thrown in.

Orbital (Paul & Phil Hartnoll)
- The brothers which have rocked the more twisted area of my mind ever since the beginning of the 90s.
- Make bleeps and beeps interesting in some mysterious way, always been truly loyal to their unique style and sound.
- Their livesets are one of the best i've ever seen.
- Most of their productions won't open in the first listen but need a more thorough listenin 'sessions' and then you can fully hear & understand their world of sounds & ideas.
- Some albums are even a bit too much on the experimental side but the first one, 'Green Album', has the timeless chilled breaks track Belfast and Chime, their first huge hit.
- Their career as Orbital was incredible, started officially with Chime in 1989 and finished with One Perfect Sunrise last year.
