Like somebody else I am copying my own too long of a post from the GLOW/Groovnauts board:
So here are my impressions of the night. My perspective may be a little different than some since I'm a bit older (have been hitting the clubs since '94) and I travel out of town at least once a month to different cities to visit friends and hit the clubs and parties. I flew in with my girl from New Orleans just for the night. In fact we are both back at work. Was it worth it ? Simple answer is a resounding yes. It was my first time at GLow/Fur. For some reason going there had always eluded us even though we had been anxious to go. Overall I was very impressed. I finally got to see what those blueprints on the old Fur website actually looked like in real life. Defintely a nice design. I made sure to walk aoriund an explore. For some reason I am fascinated by clubs, lounges - large and small. I fly to LA about 8 times a year, Vegas about three, Miami about 4, NYC about once/twice (not a big fan of NYC), SF a few times/year, and I expect to be going to DC a few times as well. I've hit all the major clubs/parties: Avalon in LA (was the palace) and Boston and NYC. After hour power in LA used to be a blast. Pimp n Ho party in Vegas is a waste, but there is a lot of booby action. I saw Armin at his first night at ICE in Vegas (before they changes the booth location. It's a beautiful club, but It's not optimal set up for a great clubbing experience. Plus you also have to deal with the 'Vegas' crowd. We left DC with a very good impression of the crowd overall. Irecognized some people fromt he boards, but I was little 'shy' last night and sometimes it's nice to be a little incognito. I can't seem to go to LA cluns withought it being like a high school reunion and sometimes I just want to enjoy the music and focus on the dj. Of course not everybody is going to necessarily be your best friend, but most people seemed decent (nice vibe) at Glow They were very energetic and very into it, especially conidering it was a Tues. night and that they are used to seeing major acts. In places where they are not used to getting major acts, either of two things will happen: they will be so into it since they are starved or they just won't know how to act and get into it. You guys rocked and we were happy to see that since I had a good impression from just lurking on the GLOW boards. Speaking of the boards, this has to be one of the best ones. Usually, the staff/moderators are not so up on them like you see here. Kudos to that. So I won't waste my time on Twilo, because that's long over. But what about Space ? Sure it's a loud system, but we're convinced it's an over rated/hyped club. Sure I've had goot times there, but it's not all that and then you have some major jerks to deal with. You feel ripped off sometimes. Please don't think I'm jaded. I'm just trying to give props to the glow promotion. Don't take it for granted. Spundae at LA at Circus (coming back soon) is nice as well as Heaven at Arena. We were in the middle of the dance floor for all of Tiesto's set, most of Dan's and all of Pete's aborted set. Sure, it got muffled a few times, but overall it sounded great. They system had great impact. My girl comented that her skirt was vibrating. None of our ears are ringing, and I was a group of about 10 people. At a lot of clubs I stuff pieces of napkin in my ears because I can tell my ears will be bleeding if I don't.
So what about Tiesto's set ? It wasn't my favorite of his, but we thought he delivered. He seemed focused for the most part. I'm not a pro DJ, but I thought his mixing was tight. As for his track selction, I'd comment that he was respecting ya'll by not playing all his tracks. If he had done that, then we'd be hearring: doesn't he ever play different songs? I'm surprised nobody has commented on the new inteprestation of Adagio. In regard to the set, Tiesto probably figured that these would be true fans and they didn't need to hear all of his own tracks and any other tracks all the other DJs are playing. His set was solid and was not a sell out. It would have been so much easier for him to play all th usual stuff, but it seemed like put some thought and effort into it. As was mentioned, I really enjoyed hearing Mind Circus and Open your eyes. I would preferred to hear a little more tracks like that from his old record box, but it was still a decent set. I also wish he played just a bit longer, but Pete was starting to do a fabulous job when he got cut off at the beginning of Carlos Vive track, como tu (Oakenfold remix). You could see his disappointment/frustration. We've seen Tiesto a ton of times, maybe not more than most, but enough for me to feel like I have a clue. Last year alone, it was crazy. Of couse we saw him at the legendary six hr set at Space during WMC. We saw him 5 times in June alone, inclding the one at Nations DC. Then I saw him in Miami at Bayfront Park, then at Space. We made the pilgramage to Holland for TIC and then saw him in LA for NYE. The great crowd helped last night.
Anway, these are mostly just my impressions/opinions. Ya'll have it pretty good. 18+ is cool, and the cover is decent. $25 for tiesto is not bad. I remember paying about $35 in New Orleans at the HOB (House of Blues) for his Nyana tour. HOB is nice, but it's not GLOW/Fur by any means. $20-25 for special events is pretty good. Special events at LA clubs is at least $30. So I digress again. I'm just rambling. We had a great time and look forward to going back even if it's not a 'special' event. It's clear that Dan Sampson can deliver as does Pete. I'd be curious to see what Tiesto does next time. I missed Ferry last time and still haven't gotten over that (it may sound like tiesto is my favorite DJ, but's actually Ferry). We may try to make it to Markus's show, but it's so close to WMC. I would would not miss that if I we're ya'll. He may easily become your favorite dj. Just wait till you hear his Rank1-Breathing version on that pounding system. That alone will be worth the price of admission. He always seems to know when to drop that. If he doesn't it, ask for a refund - just kidding.
Anyway, I'm sure I can write more but ....
